Question about, DIETING, WEIGHT LOSS and LIFTING WEIGHTS.?

I am 27 year old female. 5'1'' and 193 pounds. I already lost 60 pounds in the past 10 months from diet and cardio. HOWEVER..now, I am doing my cardio workouts and sticking to my diet yet I stopped losing weight! I actually gained 3 pounds in the past week! Usually, I lose 2 pounds a week or even more. I have about another 40 lbs to lose. My weight lost first SLOWED DOWN and now it seems to have STOPPED! I keep reading that I should lift weights to lose weight..but I'm so scared of getting bigger and bulky. I want to get smaller..not bigger!

What can I do? I do cardio at least 3 times a week at the gym for 1 hour each time. I workout till i'm dripping with sweat-i burn about 400 calories each workout.. and I eat 1000-1200 calories a day. I eat meats (mostly baked chicken and fish), fruits, and vegetables and a little grain and whole wheat. How do I get these last 40 lbs off? THANKS!

you need to change your diet.

by that, eat the same amount of calories, but shift the balance on carbs/fats/proteins

i'd suggest having more protein ~30% of calories from protein, 50% from carbs and 20% from healthy fats..

eat more meats...switch the chicken to turkey, the fish have salmon and occasionally tuna (only 1-2 times per week for the tuna)

fruits and vegetables can stay...however you'll need to mix them up as well....fruits...i mix them up weekly...apples/kiwi's/oranges should be your main fruits when trying to loose weight.

as for the weight lifting goes:

you're a WOMAN...as much as this is going to seem sexist...it's true...YOU CANNOT GAIN MUSCLE LIKE A MAN, you don't have the testosterone levels to build muscle of our size. The women you see in bodybuilding competitions are on anti estrogen, testosterone boosters and steroids, to gain what most men can from going to the gym for 9 months dedicated.

in other words, lift weights, you can get toned...but you won't get huge..

the key to doing this effectively is the need for a fat burning circuit training.

1st lift weights for 20 mins....30secs-60secs rest between sets..then go into explosive (plyometric exercises) box squats, jumping...sprints (short), for around 10 mins, and then go to the treadmill for 20-30 mins.

you'll burn more calories this way.

Good cardio workouts for weight loss?

I am trying to get more fit and loose weight but I need to find a good workout plan for me. I just got a membership at the gym. I don't know much about weight lifting...or working out in general. I do know that I love the treadmill and recumberant [sp??] bikes. I was wondering if someone could make me a sample work out of what i should be doing in a day. I really have no clue..

Because each person is different, you might want to see if your gym has personal trainer available to you. If not, find one in your area to teach you what you want/need to know and once you feel comfortable with the knowledge you've gained you can go out on your own.
