I need a weight loss buddy! I'm a 19 year old college girl, surviving on a horrid daily diet, and it needs to stop. I want to loose 15 lbs. Any one sharing a similar goal and wanna team up?
I wish I had the motivation... College is hard because you're always eating on the go.
Sexy-n-cute has the right idea though, I've lost wt. before doing what she is doing.

How many times do we hear from some overweight people that "they have tried everything" to lose weight but nothing works?
Yet these people have *never* tried missing a meal every so often or at least reducing their portions or giving up sugar and fattening foods,.,.
Losing weight is simplicity itself: eat less and burn more.
If so then I was thinking I would do that 2 times per week. I already am starting a cardio program that will have me doing cardio at my target heart rate and swimming and more cardio throughout the week.
Lifting weights definitely helps lose weight.. but to be honest, it depends on what type of weight lifting you do. If you lift heavy weight with low reps, then you are trying to bulk up and get bigger. If you lift less weight but more reps, then you will get more muscle endurance and get a more lean look. Cardio is the best way to go for fat loss. However, lifting weights will make you stronger.... which isn't a bad thing.

My mom had heart & lung failure a few years back. She had to have a tracheotomy tube put in and sleeps on a vent machine at night to assist her lungs under her body's weight. She also has degenerative osteoarthritis. If she lost some weight she could lose the tube and probably would feel better, and would at least be able to use the lift bus service with her electric wheelchair. We don't have a lot of money for a weight loss program & our exercise options are limited. Any ideas?

I am looking for a sample weekly workout plan at the gym for weight loss.?
Can someone let me know what I should be doing at the gym (how much strength training, interval training, cardio) should I do each week to maximize weight loss?
It's not that complicated.
Your body is the physical result of adaptations to environment and demands.
It will become the result of adaptations to changes to the environment and demands (which includes habits of activity, nutrition, and rest).
Those are the three components:
activity, nutrition, and rest (repair of wear and removal of stress)
Make a plan - ANY PLAN - that includes about an hour of energetic activity every day. Doesn't matter what, as long as it's energetic / vigorous. You want to experience MILD discomfort, as that's THE signal that you're triggering adaptation.
Comfort = keeping things the same or getting fatter. Too much discomfort is also bad, though - may cause injury or excessive soreness which can make you avoid exercise.
You only need ONE hour of MILD discomforting (exerting) activity per day to pay TWENTY THREE hours of dividends in feeling more energetic and becoming thinner.
For nutrition, remember that the stomach (organ) is only the size of your fist - and that although it CAN stretch, there are no modern-world reasons for it to do that. Portion to your fist - maybe and a half. Then, do a quick stretch of OTHER muscles just prior to meals so you keep a stretching sensation where it belongs.
Processed food is fat-and-diabetic-making stuff. Select the less-processed foods, especially the grains, cereals, starches. Add lots of fiber to the diet, and keep the portions to the fist. You'll eat more times a day and that's good, too.
Lay off the alcohol.
Make sure the rest is good-quality, and spend at least 30 minutes of quality, alone, quiet time each day, just letting the mind know it has nothing to do at that time, but rest.
Activity; Nutrition; Rest
Whatever your plan, put it on PAPER and STICK to it.
In 6 weeks, notice what changes you've created - and re-work the plan, based on knowing the body is designed to adapt to whatever environment and demands you give it.
Create environmental and demand changes and go another 6 weeks, sticking to that new plan.
Over time, you'll learn what works best for YOU - and you'll become the master of your personal domain.

Hi, I have an app on my iPhone called GradeCalc and it's really cool in all, but it asks for the grade weight and I have no idea what a grade weight is or how to find it. I've looked all over the Interweb and I didn't find anything.
Any teachers, professors, students know what a grade weight is and how to find it. I am at a loss as of now. So, please explain if you know what it is and how to find it.
Thanks a Bunch!
Actually I lost him at 21weeks 3days.... He had a rare genetic disorder and had to be delivered, he also had an infection that was spreading to me. He was delivered, doctors asked if I wanted to keep him alive or let him go. I let him go....... Hardest decision ever.....

Lately (past 2 weeks) I've been following the 3 top things for weight loss.... Cardio, rest, and water... thing is.... I sleep 10 hours ( 4 AM - 3 PM) my cardio consists of jogging (time not length: hour about hour and a half)... and water about i dont know...about a liter 1/2 daily no matter if i exercise or not.... I try to eat but lately i have loss of appetite
No sweat is not cardio, cardio is the heart and muscles working. Sweat is good but you need to try say jogging two miles in that hour or make it a good distance as well as time and no matter what try to eat a little something or else you will lose muscle and not weight.

I do 45 mins of cardio on the exercise bike every day at the gym.. i change up the resistance levels throughout the 45 minutes to challenge myself - ive been doing this about 2 weeks now, along with adding weight training throughout my body 3x a week and really havent seen much change in my legs or body overall -- at times i feel even my legs have gotten bigger, not smaller.. is this a good weight loss tool? am i doing something wrong? Should i switch cardio machines to start losing weight in my legs [my trouble spot]
Your exercise routine sounds good, however, I can't say for sure because I am not sure what your strength training routine consists of. I would personally switch up your cardio day to day, try intervals on the treadmill (sprint 1 minute and rest 1-2 minutes for 7 rounds) or you can do this on a bike if you prefer. Strength training should probably be circuit type training (alternate between upper and lower body exercises) with very little rest between each exercise. For example, squats, seated row, hamstring curls, shoulder press is a good circuit to start with. In 2 weeks you should have seen some results, however, if your diet isn't good this could be the problem. Eliminate all crappy carbohydrates such as sugar, pop, candy, processed foods, cereal, bagels, waffles, pancakes, granola bars, pop tarts, muffins, alcohol and you will notice and even bigger difference. Focus only on eating protein and vegetables at every meal. Save 1oz nuts and berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries) for snacks or sugar cravings. Good luck!

I'm quite unfit, haven't really exercised since I left school. I love to swim, but I get cramp soooo often when swimming it wrecks it for me (being stuck in water 2 m deep and nowhere near the side with cramp is not fun!!). So is trampolining good for weight loss if I do 3 x 10 minute bursts a day ( I can't stand any more at my fitness level yet, I get out of breath so easily!!) ?
Thanks!
Yes, it is. Here are some other good weight loss exercises you may want to try also:
Walking
Walking is great. No expertise or equipment is required, you can do it anytime and it's free! What's more, provided you do it regularly and for long enough, walking can be just as beneficial as any of the more vigorous activities (like jogging etc).
How to start
Take a 10 minutes walk, twice a day.
Gradually extend yourself
Walk every day
Walk longer
Walk faster
Walk and swing your arms at the same time
Walk up one or two gentle slopes
Walk up steeper slopes
Ideally
Aim to walk briskly (swinging your arms) for 30 minutes, each day. This should include at least one reasonably steep slope. Please note: This may take you several months to achieve, so don't be in a hurry. Remember, exercise is for LIFE!
Swimming
For most people, especially those who are very overweight, swimming is even better than walking.
How to start and then extend yourself
Similar to walking, start by going to the pool twice a week for a gentle 15 minute swim. Gradually increase the length of your swim, and your work rate while in the water. Aim to build up to about 30 minutes a day, or 45 minutes twice a week.
Cycling/cycle-machine, or Jogging
Your aim is the same as for walking or swimming. Start with a short easy routine - 10-15 minutes per day and gradually work up to about 30 minutes a day. Gradually increase your work rate, without ever straining yourself. If jogging, please invest in a good pair of running shoes that offer cushioned support.
Exercise or Aerobics classes
These classes can be great fun. Moreover, many fitness centers offer a variety of classes to suit a variety of fitness levels. Definitely worth checking out!
Exercise at home
If you can't get out, or if the weather is bad, organize an indoor exercise routine for yourself.
An easy exercise & stretch plan
Head and neck circles
Stand up straight. Without moving your shoulders, slowly move your head and neck in a wide circle. Do this half a dozen times.
Arm swings
Stand up straight with legs apart and both arms stretched straight out in front of you, at chest level. Without moving your hips, swing your arms (parallel to the floor) as far to the left as you can - and then to the right. Do this 20 times.
Shoulder circles
Stand up straight with legs apart and arms at your sides. Without moving the rest of your body, circle your left arm backwards. Repeat this with your right arm. Do this half a dozen times.
Forward stretches
Stand up straight. Place hands palms down on the front of your thighs. Keeping your legs straight, lean forwards and slowly slide your hands down your legs, as close to your ankles as possible without straining. Then move them back up your legs and finish by holding your arms straight up above your head. Repeat this half a dozen times.
Side stretches
Stand up straight, with legs apart and arms at your sides. Without moving your legs, slowly bend sideways to the left, allowing your left hand to slide down the side of your leg, as far as possible without straining. Slowly return to the start position and repeat on right hand side. Do this half a dozen times per side.
Leg swings
Stand up straight with your weight on your right leg. Place your right hand on a chair or table, for support. Swing your left leg forwards and backwards, in a pendulum motion. Do this 20 times, then repeat the exercise with your right leg.
Thigh stretches
Sit on the floor with your legs stretched straight out in front of you. Place your hands on the top of your thighs and slide them down your legs as far as possible without straining. Return to the start position and repeat 10 times. Keep the whole exercise as slow and as relaxed as possible.
Leg raising
Lie on your stomach with your legs straight and your arms by your sides. Slowly lift your left leg off the floor, as high as possible without straining. Do it slowly - do not jerk your leg upwards. Then slowly lower your leg. Repeat the exercise with your right leg. Do this half a dozen times, per leg.
Running on the spot
Stand up straight with arms relaxed. Run on the spot for 2 minutes. As you do so, try to keep the whole of your upper body as relaxed as possible. Allow your arms to bounce freely at your sides.
Dance to music
As an alternative to running on the spot, put on your favorite CD and get moving! But avoid jerky movements. Try to move easily without straining your muscles.
Warning!
Never overdo exercise!
Exercise shouldn't be a temporary fad. It should be something you do for life.
The secret is: A little and often!
Use your common sense and avoid trying to do too much, too soon.

Does exercise lead to equal weight loss every week (esp. initially) or is it uneven?
I started doing cadio + weights exercise daily 3 weeks back. I lost 3 lbs in first 2 weeks, but then my weight steadied after that. Is that normal? Do I expect more weight loss and when? I work out at a gym for >1.5 hrs every day and plan to keep doing like that. Any other tips for fast weight loss? thanks!
You have to change your work out up. It is best to do cardio..with 2-3 minute stints of ..well...say for example if you are jogging....you jog for 7 or 8 minutes and then sprint for 2 minutes..and keep going like that..or if you are cycling..you get a rhythm going and then after the 7 or 8 minutes you cycle really hard...it confuses your body and helps to lose the weight more steadily. If your body becomes used to an excersize regime it will adapt and you will not lose the calories as much as you did when starting that same regime out. Sometimes your body just needs a little break..and so you will not lose as much weight (or any) for one week..and then it will go back to losing again. Do not expect anything regular from your body. Our bodies do not work like that.

I'm 14,I'm 5"4 and weigh 145 lbs. I want to lose weight but also cut my cravings for snacks.
My family won't limit me on what I eat, and I eat because I'm hungry, not because I'm bored. Are there any ways to improve my weight that aren't obvious? I recently quit swimming and I now swim once a week for 1 1/2 hours, and help in the pool for another 1 1/2.
I understand I need to exercise, but running seems so boring and even with music or other people I get bored easily. I'd like to be able to exercise at home, if possible.
I know anorexia is a bad idea, and I'd appreciate not going on some 'miracle berry' or a website that isn't trustworthy.
YES! You can lose weight the right way and feel good about yourself!

The best way for you to lose weight is to do a mix of cardio & weights. As a girl you will not get bulky b/c you don't have the correct hormones for that.
