Has anyone ever had gastric laproscopy (the band around the stomach)?
I am strongly considering getting the lap band around the stomach. My physician has recommended it. I just wanted to get ideas of what it was like. I'm also afraid of how much it will cost...If you've gotten the surgery, how much did your insurance cover and how much did it cost you?
I'm trying to decide if I should get the surgery or really try to just go to a weight loss clinic and get medication and really try working out rigourously. I'm at a breaking point. I haven't been feeling great lately and am suffering from prolonged edema.
Any advice would be great...especially about how much the surgery cost you?

Thanks for the information about your husbands gastric bypass. Did the insurance cover the entire 55,000? What was left that you had to cover yourself? I'm just trying to see if I could cover the cost that this surgery would give me.
If you have insurance you should see if it will cover it. My insurance covered my husbands gastric bypass surgery. It was a long process starting with a seminar put on by the surgeons group. Take a seminar or two (they're free) to find out as much as you can about the surgery and then you can make more informed decisions. His surgery came to about $55,000.00 all together but it was the more extensive type. We went with that because diabetes goes away very quickly with the bypass and doesn't with the lapband till you loose a lot of the weight.
We'd gone to 3 seminars before we heard that. His diabetes was gone by the time he left the hospital and he'd been on a pill and two types of injectible insulin (4 shots a day).
Hope this helps. Whatever you do, it is worth the trouble to improve your health and life. He is a different, much younger person now.
