What food can best be equated to diet but fruits? A lot of diet programs recommend fruit as an alternative to common meals because they are not just delicious, they are also nutritious. But is this always the case? How about their glycemic index?

It is important to know the glycemic index fruits contain to determine whether it affects the blood sugar activity or not. It is not just necessary to know if these fruits can make you lose weight, these should also be instrumental in making you healthy.

Generally, fruits have low glycemic index. Most fruits are fibrous, which is one of the qualities of low GI foods. Though this is the case, not all fruits are in the low GI level. There some that is in the medium level and in the high GI level.

Low glycemic index fruits include bananas, cherries, apples, plums, tomatoes and strawberries. Their GI level is from 0 – 55. Eating these does not endanger fluctuations on the blood sugar level unlike when you eat the high GI ones. Basically, it is safe to take as much of these fruits as you want.

Fruits with medium level GI have an intermediate effect on the insulin level. The effect is not extensive so you can still sit back and relax. Examples of these are raisins, pineapples and mangoes.

There are also high glycemic index fruits; one example for this is the watermelon. However, when you base it on the glycemic load or the ranking of foods using the GI and the food portioning, you’ll find out that you would still need to consume a sizeable quantity of it before you reach the danger zone.

In conclusion, the glycemic index fruits contain does not have to alarm us in any way. Indeed, dieticians are right to recommend them on our diet because they do not just make us sexier but healthier too.
