diabetes measurement

When will we have accurate monitoring devices diabetes?

Diabetes is a real problem. Obesity is mentioned almost daily in the media. Even when we get type 2 diabetes and have to depend on the device monitoring of blood glucose, we still inaccurate measurements. Although there are all kinds of measuring devices are available, all kinds of federal regulations, all sorts of tests before the FDA the commercial release, why the hell are our lifeline to good health so unreliable? Even the national laboratories are inconsistent. Our health professionals depend on its accuracy and we, patients depend on our feet to control diabetes well. So why are they so badly. Yes, counters are best they were twenty years ago. If I am grateful for their existence, we have the technology so as to be able to obtain to the moon, but I can not get an accurate reading of glucose and much less an accurate reading HbA1c. For example, my last A1C result was 6.4 in the physician office, while the same morning, my home test was 5.9! It's just a sad state of affairs.

As scientific clinical laboratory, I can tell you it is impossible to duplicate the following device to device, mainly because different peripheral glucose and hemoglobin A1C measurement using a different methodology. In a clinical laboratory, we establish what we call Reference Range (normal) on the basic method we use. Therefore, while the value is different, the reference range is also different from one device to reflect the difference in methodology. Did you ask your doctor whether the clinical decision will be different between 6.4 and 5.9? I doubt 0.5 will have a different impact on any of its clinical decisions. There is something called pre-error analysis by example when you perform glucose monitoring on your own, you may be using too much alcohol hemolyze RBC, or pressing too hard as you enter tissue fluid, or a drop of blood that is too small or too large. In addition, much of these device meter was linear, and when the result is too low or too high, they will give inaccurate results, and the range of linearity is usually included in the instruction manual. Generally glucose less than 40 or 400 will cause problem. There are many factors that can affect the quality of results, if in doubt I would still confidence test in a clinical laboratory of a device point of care test.
