Why do people like metallica, anthrax, black sabbath, and iron maiden even though they suck?
so everytime anybody on yahoo! answers asks what the best metal band is, there's always the guy who says "mEtAlLiCa RoOlZ!!" or "cant beat the killer 4 of metal- metallica, anthrax, black sabbath and iron maiden!"
i've asked this before and every time somebody says this, although im looking for modern day metal that isnt full of major chords and happy singing and crappy attempts of having cool hair.
I personally like bands like all shall perish, as blood runs black, protest the hero, august burns red, and born of osiris.
anybody that agrees with me tell me, but if you dont agree and you truly do think that 'metallica roolz!' then tell me why, and please dont say that its a 'classic' or the 'guitar solos rock', because that's what people say every time i ask why the "metal 4" are so good.
First off, who says the "killer 4" of metal are Metallica, Anthrax, Sabbath and Maiden? There's a "Big Four" of thrash metal, which is Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer, maybe that's who you mean? No matter... In any case though, an overall greatest 4 of metal would probably not include Anthrax, whom, you'll be sorry to hear, I'm listening to right now 
Second, don't rip on old-school metal if you listen to the newer stuff that's out now. Metalcore/Deathcore bands, which seem to be your thing, are a product of metal and punk, both of which draw off of other metal bands to a large degree, especially Black Sabbath. This doesn't mean you have to like those older bands, but at least have some respect for them in their time.
And thirdly, about your arguments... What more do you want fans of Metallica to say? Isn't a person's choice in music based on their own preference and what they like to hear? My guess is that you like bands like As Blood Runs Black because of their harsh vocals and heavy, hard playing style, but that doesn't mean that they are any more valid as a band than, say, Iron Maiden, because anything you hold against them is an opinion.
If it was a matter of technical skill it'd be no different. There are endless arguments either way based on how good certain artists actually are at their given instrument, and an easy argument against your music would likely center around the death growl, but the bottom line is that it all comes down to opinion. For example, AC/DC is heavily criticized for simple songs with few chords, yet they are one of the most successful bands ever. So the question is not whether a band sucks, but what makes a band suck to any given person.
So... I'll tell you my opinion.
I love heavy metal because it is fast and fast guitarwork is something I enjoy. And I do love a good solo. 80s thrash metal works for me because it is fun and angry at the same time, yet I can also understand the lyrics. I love earlier metal more than modern metal because it is easier for me to appreciate all aspects of the music separately AND simultaneously, whereas today's stuff often seems to be so much about overall sound/noise that it's harder (for me) to pick it apart.
There's my opinion. Does it make sense?
